Price-Trak Finds an Increase in New Product Introductions and Broad Price Declines for the 1st 9 Months of 2017

Albany, NY: Today, Price-Trak, a market research company specializing in the reporting of cost and promotion allowances, announced key findings for the first 9 months of 2017. The study included data that was collected from a confidential panel of wholesalers and retailers and included nearly 40,000 items and over a half million trade promotions or deals.

For the first nine months of 2017 we’ve observed a significant increase in new UPC codes versus the same period in the prior year. A sample of categories experiencing significant increase in new UPC Codes include:

  • Refrigerated Yogurt +14.5%
  • Breakfast Foods +12.3%
  • RTE Cereal +10.9%
  • Laundry Detergent +10.6%
  • Seasonings +7.7%
  • Pet Foods and Treats +7.5%

Pricing pressure was evident in over 40% of the 150 categories monitored by The Price-Trak Report this is most likely related to the margin pressure retailers are experiencing from on-line alternatives. As retailers look to maintain their margins there is more pressure on manufacturers to lower pricing. The list below highlights those categories with significant pricing activity in the first nine months of 2017.
